CAIRO / ADDIS ABABA — The Arab League and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) have formed a rare united front today, condemning Israel’s recognition of Somaliland as a “violation of international law.” In an emergency session, the Arab League, led by Saudi Arabia and Egypt, warned that the move is an attempt at “demographic engineering” in the Red Sea.

Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry stated it would not recognize any “parallel entities” that undermine Somalia’s unity. Meanwhile, IGAD—the regional bloc for East Africa—reaffirmed that Somalia remains a sovereign member state with fully recognized borders. This massive regional pushback ensures that for now, Somaliland remains diplomatically isolated despite its new alliance with Tel Aviv
